Prostate Cancer Awareness & Black Men’s Health: Conversation with Dr. Eddie W. Wright
By Lana Reid | November 26, 2025
As part of the Black Men Matter Series, Lana Reid speaks with Dr. Eddie W. Wright, founder of The We Can Win Foundation, to explore his mission to educate, empower, and advocate for Black men’s health—particularly around prostate cancer. Dr. Wright shares the personal experience that propelled him into this work and reflects on the urgent need to create safe, informed spaces where Black men can talk openly about screening, wellness, and the fears that often keep them from seeking care. He also discusses how The We Can Win Foundation has grown into a vital platform for awareness, early detection, and community support, helping rewrite the narrative around Black men’s health through knowledge, action, and connection.

In this episode of The Male Perspective, guest Dr. Eddie W. Wright, Founder and Executive Director of The We Can Win Foundation, Inc., shares the story behind the life-changing call he received from his doctor in 2012 and the medical journey that followed. Dr. Wright discusses why prostate cancer disproportionately impacts Black men—who experience a 70% higher incidence rate and are more than twice as likely to die from the disease compared to white men. He also breaks down the cultural, historical, and systemic barriers that fuel this disparity, including longstanding medical mistrust and hesitation around prostate screenings.
Dr. Wright further explains how newer, less-invasive screening options such as MRIs, PET scans, and liquid biopsies offer safer and more comfortable alternatives. He provides practical guidance on when to start screening, what tests to ask for, and how early detection can save lives. The conversation also highlights his upcoming Together We Win – Health and Wellness Fair in 2026 and how the community can get involved.
