As part of the Black Men Matter Series, Lana Reid sits down with Andree Reid, author, professional boxer, and founder of Akingsformula Through Christ, for a conversation about discipline, faith, mentorship, and creating supportive spaces for men. Andree shares how his experiences growing up, pursuing a college degree, and entering the world of professional boxing helped shape his understanding of manhood, perseverance, and personal responsibility. Drawing from lessons learned both inside and outside the boxing ring, he discusses his commitment to mentoring young people through Champions in Training and building a faith-centered brotherhood where men can connect, hold one another accountable, express vulnerability, and grow together.

In this episode of The Male Perspective, Andree Reid shares how boxing, faith, and personal experience have influenced his understanding of manhood and inspired his efforts to create opportunities for others.
Andree’s journey into boxing became more than an introduction to a physically demanding sport. Through training and competition, he learned lessons about discipline, perseverance, mental strength, and the responsibility that comes with making decisions and following through on commitments.
Those lessons took on greater meaning as he navigated challenges growing up and while pursuing his college degree. Andree discusses how the demands of boxing helped him develop skills and perspectives that extended beyond the ring and influenced how he approached difficulties in other areas of his life.
The conversation also explores the connection between his experiences in boxing and his relationship with God. For Andree, the discipline required in the sport became part of a larger personal journey involving faith, purpose, and a deeper understanding of the man he wanted to become.
Today, Andree is using those experiences to help young people develop skills of their own.
Through Champions in Training, a youth boxing program serving boys and girls, he works to introduce participants to the discipline, confidence, character development, and life skills that can be learned through boxing. The program reflects his belief that the value of the sport extends beyond physical conditioning or athletic competition.
Learning to remain focused, accept instruction, develop self-control, and persevere through challenges can influence how young people approach their responsibilities and relationships outside the gym.
But Andree’s work is not limited to youth mentorship.
Through Akingsformula Through Christ, he is developing a faith-centered brotherhood that creates opportunities for men to connect with one another through meaningful relationships, accountability, vulnerability, and personal growth.
The conversation examines why men need supportive spaces of their own and the importance of having environments where they can engage in honest dialogue without feeling that they must always have everything figured out.
Men may be accustomed to conversations centered on what they are expected to provide, accomplish, or endure. Andree’s vision introduces another dimension to those expectations by emphasizing the importance of connection, spiritual development, and having other men available for guidance and support.
Within Akingsformula Through Christ, accountability and vulnerability are not presented as opposing qualities. Instead, both are part of developing relationships that encourage men to examine themselves, support one another, and continue growing.
Andree also discusses his larger vision of establishing a physical community center. The goal is to create a dedicated place where individuals can come together for mentorship, faith-centered engagement, and meaningful relationships that strengthen the surrounding community.
That vision connects his work with young people to his efforts with adult men. Through Champions in Training, he seeks to help boys and girls develop discipline, confidence, and character. Through Akingsformula Through Christ, he seeks to create a brotherhood where men can continue developing those qualities while finding connection and support.
Ultimately, Andree Reid’s conversation demonstrates how lessons learned through personal challenges, athletic discipline, and faith can become the foundation for serving others.
His work reflects a larger understanding of manhood that includes not only perseverance and personal responsibility, but also the willingness to mentor, build relationships, support other men, and create spaces where individuals have opportunities to grow together.
