The Challenges Facing Black K-12 Students

In this episode of “The Male Perspective,” Lana talks with Dr. Lathardus Goggins II – Educational Consultant, Scholar, Advocate, and Author. He shares insights on the challenges and opportunities facing Black students in today’s K-12 system. From addressing the impact of cultural disconnects in classrooms often dominated by educators who do not look like Black students or share their lived experiences to unpacking the myth of “colorblind” teaching, Dr. Goggins emphasizes the importance of social emotional learning, community engagement, and rites of passage programs in shaping student success. “The Male Perspective” is hosted by Lana Reid, the founder of Conversations in Color, a nonprofit 501(c)3 grassroots organization dedicated to providing uplifting and community building spaces of dialogue for Black voices.

Conversations in Color’s Current Initiatives:

  • TAPESTRY OF BLACK VOICES AWARDS: The “Tapestry of Black Voices Awards” honors our local communities and showcases the incredible creativity and voices of Black communities throughout the United States.
